- The Complete Medicinal Herbal by Penelope Ody - Beautifully illustrated, highlights of wellknown herbs and their uses in folklore and today with great instructions on how to prepare different forms of herbal medicines.
- Herbs: An Illustrated Encyclopedia by Kathi Keville - Easy to navigate and colorful depiction of many herbs grown and used in N. America- not specific to medicine but more about botany, where and how to grow herbs as well as culinary tips for each herb.
- The Green Pharmacy - Great quick go-to book for treating different conditions with herbs. Dr. Duke's knowledge is much respected in this country by herbalists and the NIH alike.
- The Yoga of Herbs by David Frawley - For the more advanced reader who wants to learn more about Ayurvedic herbs and how they are used by traditional practitioners of Ayurveda. No illustrations but the information is invaluable to any true healer.
- Eat - Taste - Heal - An Ayurvedic Cookbook with fantastic illustrations and recipes that teach you how to use plants and what you eat to heal your body and prevent disease. One of my favorite all-time books to give to patients!
- The Way of Herbs by Michael Tierra - A great resource and overview for those intereseted in learning about the role herbs can play in our daily lives. The first several chapters are a must read as he explains what health is and how we can become more aware of our own needs. He is learned in many different traditions and how they use herbs- Western, Chinese, and Ayurvedic
